Vaccines And Childhood Diseases
Childhood vaccinations are essential to prevent your child from many deadly diseases. But now there are more issues about whether vaccination is necessary or not. It is also important to determine which vaccines are important and which are not. Yet there are more vaccine preventable diseases for children.
Vaccines prevent many disabilities and deaths among children. Polio vaccines are the most important one that prevents polio attacks. So number of polio attacks is considerably reduced when compared to last decades. Now many diseases are eradicated from the World through vaccines. But there are viruses and bacteria that may cause many diseases. So vaccination is necessary in today's world.
Measles, Mumps, rubella, Diphtheria are some of the common childhood diseases that can be preventable through vaccines. DTP vaccines are given in 4 combinations at very early stage of the child in 3 separate doses at regular intervals. DTP vaccine will not produce any adverse effects. But mild fever, swelling in the place where the shot is given may happen. It is curable by normal medicines. But in rare cases, it may cause high fever with vomiting. If the child cries continuously for 3 hours or more after vaccinating him/ her, immediately consult your doctor.
But giving IPV to prevent polio is safe and it has never shown any severe side effects. Likewise MMR vaccine also will not produce any side effects other than mild fever and swelling. Influenza vaccine may cause fever and body pain. But it will last for 1 or 2 days only. Children who are given small pox vaccine may get rash, high fever and in some rare cases they may get mild level small pox also. Chicken pox vaccine may also cause swelling, high fever etc. One out of five children may get soreness after vaccinating them.
Any vaccine may cause minor side effects that will disappear within a weak. If the side effects of vaccine are moderate or high, immediately consult the doctor who had given the vaccine. Though there are some minor side effects, it should be remembered that vaccines decrease the child mortality rate considerably. Vaccines eliminate some deadly disease like small pox from the world. Treatment to many diseases are difficult and need lots of days to recover. So vaccinating in childhood irrespective of the minor side effects will provide your child a long lasting protection.
