Parenting teenagers is the most difficult thing to do. It is easy to parent smaller children as they will at least sit down with you and listen to what you have to say and will certainly not defy you with their words and actions. But with teenagers it is an entirely different story altogether. Teenagers are a very difficult lot of people to be handled and they need to be handled very skillfully as there are chances that they may just go astray.

Many have researchers have found parents complain that they are finding it extremely difficult to parent teenagers these days and that they are not getting enough support to handle these youngsters who give them lots of trouble. Parents are a worried lot as they

As they do not know if they are doing a good job at parenting teenagers and also about what type of world their children will grow up into with all the drug and alcohol abuse doing the rounds. Teenagers have to deal with issues like drugs, alcohol, safety and education when they are struggling to find their individual identities and independence.

These days even with two parents being around to raise teenage children or children of any age it is not an easy job. Then think of the plight of a single parent. For a single parent to raise a teenager it is a really trying task as he or she will not have the other parent for moral support incase there is a problem.

Teenagers resent their single parents having a relationship with somebody else. Children always want their parents to themselves and they want the undivided attention of their parents. With teenagers parenting can be very tricky. As parents you have to set certain standards before you want then to follow those rules. If you happen to break the rules you set then they will even question you on that.

When it comes to alcohol or smoking then parents must make sure that they themselves are not smokers or consume alcohol before they give a lecture to their teenagers on the vices of drinking and smoking. Teenagers prefer a lot of privacy and they resent if their parents intrude. Parents have to give them their space. It is only then that they will have a cordial relationship with their parenting. Parenting a teenager is the toughest job in the world.

It is true that you will get your good share of trying times and troubling tantrums, but you’ll also get your fair share of the many joys of parenthood as well. There are however a few things that you will always have to take into account being a single parent when raising your children, and it won’t always be easy on you. And one of the first one you’ll have to decide upon is how far you’re ready to go for the sake of happiness.

What happens if you meet another person you want to have a relationship with? Being a single parent, this isn’t all that unlikely as you might think. So do you enter into this relationship knowing that it won’t lead to anywhere because you won’t disrupt your children and they don’t need the added stress? Or do you just go ahead and start dreaming about what you could be like as a normal two parent family?

The worst thing happens and your kids absolutely detest your new partner. What then, being a single parent do you throw that person out of your life for the sake of your children’s happiness and peace of mind? Or do you go ahead and carve out some joy for yourself, knowing that your children will, eventually – will – get to like this new person on their lives?

Being a single parent is not easy and it might be nice to think how your kids could benefit from being in a two parent family. Many of the harder decisions in your life could now be shared with someone else, and you’d have someone to share your fears and joys in as well.

Being a single parent and having only yourself for you to depend on, you’ll need to make all the decisions and decide what’s good for your family and what’s bad. This includes new relationships for you and how your children take it, and also includes such things as school problems, possible injuries, dating problems, and some other things that goes with the territory of being a parent.

Contrary to what you believe or what you might have heard, kids will become needier emotionally as they grow up and into their teen years. Being a single parent family you will therefore as far as possible need to provide them with the emotional support of a two parent family.
