Stroke Interventions
The more long the stroke goes without intervention; there are more chances of the brain to get injured. Its treatment on the proper time is very important. You should not waste time in waiting for the symptoms to go away. The interventions which can help in the prevention of the ischemic stroke in individuals having warning signs include blood-thinning medicines like the Warfarin and the aspirin. It also includes surgical procedures such as the carotid Endarterectomy i.e. removal of the narrow part of the artery and angioplasty i.e. stenting.
Stroke Specific Interventions:
* Coronary Intervention- This includes the percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and also the coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
* Thrombolysis- Including for the stroke, peripheral arterial disease or the myocardial infarction.
* Carotid Intervention
* Cardiac Valve Repair or Replacement along with the replacement of the mechanical valves or the tissues.
Interventions for preventing depression after the Stroke: One of the most common and the important complication faced after the stroke is the depression which is very poorly managed. The treatment for the stroke should be started at an early stage after the stroke to decrease the risk of depression as well as recover faster. Depression due to the stroke is also prevented by an antidepressant drugs.
The three proven strategies for the stroke intervention are aspirin, tPA administration and the management in the stroke care unit. The MERCI Retriever is the latest intervention available for the strokes. It is approved by the FDA for treating ischemic strokes. The MERCI Retriever is a small corkscrew device having a micro catheter inserted in it by from the groin. When this device having a corkscrew reaches the clots formed in your brain, it starts penetrating the clot. This clot is then removed by another catheter that is attached to the neck.
Preventing and managing the stroke is a crucial process that needs intervention at different levels. These levels include social, physical, psychological and environmental. There is no adequate evidence for confirming the efficacy of the interventions of the stroke. But, counseling programs have found to show the most of the positive outcomes.
