Stress Management
Stress management is an important skill to develop with the pace of life speeding up every day, stress management is becoming almost indispensable. Stress management teaches you how to deal with stress because, especially in the developed world, stress is a fact of life and stress will probably only get worse and worse, not better. So learning stress management techniques can really save you a lot of wear and tear.
A lot of stress management is planning and prevention. by this, I don't mean necessarily avoiding stress. A totally stress free life might not even be so good for you anyway. But by stress management planning and prevention, I refer to learning where your stress points are likely to be in your daily life and preparing yourself physically and emotionally to handle the stress. With some planning, some of your daily life stress can be totally avoided while through stress management, most of it can at least be prepared for and the negative effects of stress can be mitigated.
One of the best stress management techniques that falls under planning, prevention and even active intervention during real time stress, is staying well hydrated. Everybody is always harping on the fact that you need to drink enough water. Well they are right. Drinking enough water, (6-8 glasses a day for the average person.) is one of your best anti-stress stress management techniques. It is a great stress management technique because being even mildly dehydrated effects your thinking and emotions in ways that you don't even realize. So drink plenty of water all day, every day. It will help you with stress management.
To actively deal with stress that is happening to you right now, you don need to be prepared with some stress management techniques that can help you right on the spot. When you feel that first rush of stress come over you, you need to have trained yourself to let that be a signal for you to stop and take a couple of slow deep breaths in and out. When we get under stress, one of the first things we often do is to start breathing rapidly and shallowly. This is not good stress management. Lack of oxygen to the brain can cause many problems and mild panic is one of them.
So when the first adrenaline rush of stress hits, breathe deeply so you can use that boost of energy productively, not running around in panic mode. Good stress management is good breath control. Stress management is about prevention. And stress management is about mastering techniques that can really help you when you are under stress.
