Practicing Meditation



Meditation is defined in many ways by different people and religion. In Buddism, medication is learning how to listen with your own wisdom, so that you become more knowledgeable, understandable. It gives peace of mind. Some religion says meditation is way to heal emotions and stresses. Meditation helps in building concentration to achieve different goals. Now we will see how to meditate?

How to meditate?

Before starting meditation few things must be known, that is, a place meditation should be quiet. Switch off phones, if you are having any. Make sure you are not too tired, select early morning time. Sit comfortably, you can use cushion. Room shuold not be too hot or cold. Always wear loose, comfortable clothes. Now we will see how to meditate.

1) Body:

- Keep your back straight, in whichever posture you meditate is most essential.
- Always make yourself comfortable and physically relaxed, and avoid moving too much.
- keep the head straight, slightly bent forward.
- Keep the teeth slightly apart, the tip of the tongue against the upper pallet.
- Eyes should be kept half-open (without really looking), but many beginners find that too distracting and so better close them.
- Shoulders should be relaxed and the hands can be put in one's lap.
- Legs should be simply crossed. Sit properly.
- Try to breathe from naval, i.e, belly-breathing; not breathing with the chest.
- Always remember that the posture should enhance meditation, not be an obstacle.

2) Mind:

- Be relaxed, but at the same time awake and attentive. It is difficult to find your balance here, it is not easy.

- Be a careful observer of your own mind and thoughts.

3) Session:

Try and set a minimum time that you want to meditate and try to stick to that minimum time you decided, but also stop before you get completely tired.

Common problems while meditating:

Physical pain is common phenomenon while doing this meditation. You may experience pain in your backbones while doing meditation, if pain continues. When the pain is very strong and comes every session again, then check your sitting postures. As usaully pain goes away with habit. Also sometimes distraction, restlessness and tension arises while doing this meditation. If it happens then take deep breath and relax your mind. Do belly-breathing this time. Sometime people feel sleepiness and numbness in legs while doing meditation, this is because prolong pressure on your legs, so check your sitting posture. And many more problems arises for beginner, which solved with time.
