A person suffers from a stroke when the blood supply to the brain of the patient is cut. When the flow of blood to the brain of the victim is cut during a stroke, the lack of oxygen to the brain may produce very devastating results. The medical community that is related to this field has always advocated the use of physical therapy after a stroke for stroke rehabilitation, but with huge cost and fewer guarantees, this method is not used much for the rehabilitation of a stroke patient. Although the physical therapy appears to work only outwardly with some improvement in the physical activity, studies have now proved that long-term changes have actually occur mentally with the help of physical therapy. In this the undamaged brain cells step-in and take the place of the damaged cells.

Today with a number of scientist and medical scholars are stepping up to bring a new evolution in the art of physical therapy for stroke rehabilitation. One of the top scholars in the field and his team has reportedly developed an intensive program of physical therapy for the stroke victims, that in a relatively short period of time delivers astonishing and very impressive results and the brain also shows significant improvement.

The same team had developed a method called constraint-induced movement therapy about ten years ago. The hall mark of the treatment is that it produces an excellent improvement in the arms that are weakened in the stroke. They use the everyday situations for this therapy so that the patient does not have to think that he is in some rehabilitation center. Basically, the patients working arm is restrained for almost 90 % of the waking hours, for two to three weeks depending on the amount or the time of the rehabilitation that is needed for the patient. This makes the patient to use the weakened arm more than the working one and it results in a considerable movement within a span of few weeks.
