Omega 3 fish oil contains one of the most important types of fat that our bodies can't make on it's own, polyunsaturated fat. Polyunsaturated fat is an essential fatty acid that our bodies need to be healthy and protect us against disease, but we must get it by eating foods or taking vitamin supplements. Omega 3 fish oil is a good choice to supplement our diet to increase our polyunsaturated fat intake.

In the 1970s, researchers found that Eskimos were less likely to have heart disease. This was traced to the high amounts of fish and polyunsaturated Omega 3 fish oil in the normal Eskimo diet. Studies continued to show that this contributed to the low rates of coronary artery disease and a higher rate of general health.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids are easily found in fish oil obtained from tuna, salmon, herring, anchovies, sardines and other cold water dwelling fish. Eating a balanced diet with Omega 3 fish oil supplements is a good choice to get a necessary amount of these essential nutrients since our bodies need them to function properly.

Omega 3 fish oil can help the body to function more efficiently and can lower both the levels of unhealthy fats in the blood and blood pressure. It can also encourage healthy hearts, more flexible joints, promote calm balanced moods related to a healthy brain, support kidney health and general stamina. Research has also shown that the fatty acids in Omega 3 fish oil may also be a factor in controlling cholesterol, asthma, ADD, bronchitis, type 2 diabetes, emphysema, depression and improved eyesight.

The American Heart Association recommends Omega 3 fish oil to lower the risk of heart disease. Studies show that nearly a quarter of a million sudden cardiac deaths a year are unexpected because the majority of people with heart disease are undiagnosed.
