The stroke is resulted from the inadequate blood supply to the brain. Early treatment is very essential to avoid the permanent damage to the brain which can result in the potential disability. Any symptom of the stroke should be considered as the medical emergency. There are numerous remarkable advance technologies for the early diagnosis of stroke. They include the electroencephalogram, digital subtraction angiography, carotid phonoangiography, CT scan and MRI scan. MRI scan to diagnose stroke is more sensitive method.

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging can be performed on any body part. It doesn't involve the radiation like other imaging procedures such as x-ray, CT scan. The MRI scan provides more detailed images of the organs and soft tissues. It can more effectively differentiate between the similar tissues. MRI scan is applied for the examination of chest, abdomen, spinal column, pelvis, joints and nervous system. MRI scan offers more accurate pictures of the brain and its arteries. It is very beneficial for detecting various abnormalities in brain and blood vessels. It can determine the damaged area of brain due to the ischemic stroke.

MRI is very helpful for imaging the soft tissues like brain. During this test, the patient is shifted into the opening of MRI machine. The machine develops a magnetic field which causes the alteration in the water molecules in the brain cells. The response to this magnetic field is detected and an image of the brain is created.

During the MRI scan, a radio signal is turned on and the energy is absorbed in various amounts by the different atoms in the body. The reflected energy is detected by the MRI scan. A digital computer develops these reflections into the picture of brain.

During the MRI scan for the diagnosis of stroke, the patient is kept in the magnetic field. It causes the change in the movements of brain cells. When the patient is in the magnetic field, the head is subjected to the explosions of the known frequency energy. The response of the brain cells to this known frequency energy is determined in the form of signals. The image of the brain is generated using these signals. MRI scan is helpful to detect the presence, size and location of arteriovenous malformations and aneurysms that can cause the hemorrhagic stroke.
