Migraine And Stroke
The connection of migraine and stroke is a double bind for the neurologists. Migraine is closely connected with a greater risk of stroke and it is one of the independent risk factors for causing an ischemic stroke in individuals. T6he exact origin of the disease is yet not known but studies report that there is some mechanism related between the two diseases. Migraine related strokes can be classified in three main categories:
1. stroke with clinical features of migraine
2. co-existing stroke and migraine
3. migraine induced stroke
Migraine and stroke have some common symptoms. Thus anyone having migraine is under the fear that he may have a stroke too. Migraine means a kind of headache that is caused by the spasms of the arteries. This results in a headache. A stroke is a blockage of the blood to the different areas of the brain. This kills the cells and affects the surrounding areas of the brain. Migraine will not cause any damage to the brain in the long or the short term. Whereas, on the other hand, a stroke causes certain damage to the brain that may differ from mild to disabling. In some extreme cases, stroke may also end up to coma or death. Inspite of the similar symptoms in migraine and the stroke, you can easily differentiate between the stroke and the migraine.
Symptoms of the stroke and migraine- Migraine and stroke share some common symptoms. These common symptoms are:
* disturbances in speech
* problems with eye sight such as loss of vision'
* Weakness of the muscles, frequently on the one side of the body.
* Tingling and the numbness of the face particularly one side only.
Treatment: Reoccurring migraines and strokes must be treated appropriately to confirm the diagnosis and receive medical treatments effectively. In many people what appears to be a migraine may later on turn out to be a stroke or an ischemic attack. A person who experiences a stroke should immediately go for medical advice.
Important things to Remember:
* The risk of stroke can be decreased by your lifestyle choices like quitting cigarettes.
* People suffering from migraine are at a higher risk of experiencing a stroke in their later life.
