The number of women who are having babies after they are in their mid-thirties and early forties is steadily increasing. What is actually causing these women to have babies so late in life when the ideal age for a woman to have a child is actually between 25 and 30?

When women decide to have babies after the age of 35 and 40 there are serious concerns and issues related to pregnancies and motherhood.

Women have become financially independent and also are getting equally qualified through higher education and thus are able to get into careers which have taken up most of their time and energy. These successful career oriented women had only their careers on their mind and there was no time to think about getting married or having children.

Getting married and having children means additional responsibility which will take a heavy toll on their time and women will not be able to concentrate on their work.

Also these career women just did not feel the need to have a family as they were quite happy with their life as it gave them satisfaction.

But after 35 and nearing 40 and after having achieved all they want in their careers and having made themselves financially comfortable they suddenly realized that they have no one to share with what they have achieved so far. They feel that there is a huge void in their lives and that it is not complete without a family to share with.

That’s when they decide to have children either biologically through a donor sperm or through a surrogate mother or by just making an adoption .But if they plan to go through pregnancy at such a late stage then they must be prepared to face a lot of risks relating pregnancy and childbirth.

Fertility of a woman who wants to conceive decreases with age and the older they are the more difficult it will be to conceive successfully. As their eggs are older the risk of miscarriage is much higher with an increased risk of conceiving and delivering a child having Downs Syndrome. There are more chances of having twins also as age increases.
