Research premature ejaculation – commonly abbreviated as PE – and you will find that one of the treatment options commonly cited are Kegel exercises. Devised by Dr. Arnold Kegel, these exercises were designed by a noted gynecologist with an eye on strengthening the pubococcygeus muscle, a set of muscle fibers found in both men and women.

In simplest terms, these exercises follow a specific regimen of contracting the PC muscle and then relaxing it at will, frequently done for a certain period of time. The goal Dr. Kegel envisioned was to benefit women who had undergone childbirth and who needed to tone the muscles which were stretched by the experience.

There are also other conditions which are indicated as benefiting from Kegel exercises, such as prostatitis in men and urinary incontinence in both men and women. Even as these exercises were considered new and useful at the time of introduction, there are actually records which showcase that they have been part of Chinese and other Indian mysticism, frequently with an eye on sexual gratification.

In this instance, Kegel exercises are said to enable a man to gain a strong sense of control over his pubococcygeus muscle and thus control his ejaculation. Even as this sounds like a wonderful panacea for those suffering from premature ejaculation, there are those who vociferously object to the use of these exercises for this condition.

Asserting that Kegel exercises may actually be contributory to premature ejaculation in some men, detractors from the practice cite the fact that there is a possibility that the contraction of the pubococcygeus muscle will lead to a contraction of the prostate itself, thereby not halting but instead causing ejaculation. In addition to the foregoing, Kegel exercises are thought to have a stimulating effect on the prostate, and considering that many online sources suggest that men should do these muscle squeeze and release actions for four to six weeks until they see results, there is a good chance that in that period of time a testosterone overage is created within the prostate itself.

An increase in testosterone will heighten a man's ability to achieve orgasm quicker, and thus the manipulation of the pubococcygeus muscle is actually considered to have an opposite effect. Several other pelvic exercises have been suggested, but by and large only a physician should be consulted with an eye on offering relief from PE. During this consultation it will be wise to not only have a full physical examination, but also a blood test for measuring hormone levels in the blood and of course a prostate exam to ensure that it is not inflamed or enlarged.

It is then – after physical causes for PE have been successfully ruled out – that an exercise regimen may be undergone. Men will be wise to journal their experiences especially with an eye on premature ejaculation and if it appears that the latter is increasing in frequency rather than decreasing, an immediate halt of any and all pelvic exercises needs to be done. From there, consult once again with your physician.
