Parenting does not end with just giving birth to children and raising them into adults. It means that you as a parent have to set goals for your self as parent and make sure that these values are followed by your child so that he or she grows up into a wonderful wholesome personality.

We find that on Mother’s Day and Father’s day mothers and fathers are showered with loving cards and gifts by their children telling them how much they really love them.

Since so much of hype is going into celebrations like this it make one wonder whether being a parent is a right or privilege.

There are people who have children for all the wrong reasons like not using birth control, social pressures, loneliness, and sometimes out of ignorance not actually being aware what being a parent means.

In less developed countries you find people just producing children like they do in factories. Especially in remote villages people feel that they have to have a child every year. They are not bothered about the fact that they would not even be able to provide enough food or clothing to the already existing children. This is very common in villages in India.

People are uneducated and they are under the impression that it is their privilege to have as many children as they want without having to bother about how they are going to actually parent them to become completely developed people in future both emotionally and intellectually.

When children are born due to the ignorance of parents these children become unhappy, unwanted children who tend to get into trouble and later end up becoming drug addicts, criminals or as cheats.

The parents of these children are the ones who thought that parenting is a right. For them, parenting just ends with bringing children into the world just like animals. And, there is nothing more to it. They are not bothered about the type of values they would like their children to follow or what kind of adults they are growing up to be.

But there are people who take parenting as a privilege and put in lots of hard work in bringing up their children into complete adults. They provide a safe loving environment for their children and put in a lot of selfless hard work into parenting. This selflessness certainly has its rewards in future when these children grow up to be successful people with good values in their life. So parenting is certainly a privilege more than aright.
