Emotional Health




Emotional health is a many faceted thing and emotional health is a very important component of your overall health. Emotional health requires emotional maturity and proper thinking. Emotional immaturity leads the improper thinking which leads to bad emotional health. But how does one acquire emotional maturity in order to secure their emotional health? Is there some way other than the school of hard knocks to gain the necessary knowledge for emotional health? Are there less painful ways to gain emotional maturity and suffering the pain and heartache of making all the mistakes and being emotionally injured and then healing? The answers would be yes and no.

On your road to emotional maturity and hence, on your way to emotional health, you are going to make mistakes and suffer from them. You're also going to meet people who will intentionally hurt you. I'm sorry to say it, but it is true that suffering is a fact of life. So your first lesson in emotional maturity and therefore your first step toward emotional health is to recognize that suffering is a fact of life. The human condition does not exist without suffering. Wanting it to be any other way does not make it so and does not lead to emotional health. Wishing and daydreaming about a perfect world where suffering doesn't exist, doesn't lead to emotional maturity and therefore doesn't enhance your emotional health. This is not to say you need to major in suffering. No, that would not be emotionally healthy either. It just means that in order to be emotionally healthy you can't live your life trying to avoid pain. Your emotional health depends upon your living a full life and by trying to avoid pain you live a less than full life and still suffer pain anyway.

So in order to have emotional health, you need to be emotionally mature enough to see that whenever the pain is that you are experiencing or may experience, will not last for ever so don't structure your life around avoiding emotional pain and difficult situations. Your emotional health is enhanced every time you face your fears and at least look at what you were afraid of. If you can at least do this, you will be the well on your road to emotional maturity and emotional health. There are many ways to learn about emotional maturity and gain emotional health. There are courses and teachers and books galore, so have a blast on the road to emotional health.
