Many a times not only food materials but also certain type of drinks contributes in adding to the cholesterol level in our body. Many of us may be unaware of the fact that drinking coffee adds to the cholesterol level in our body and is also harmful to our body. But drinking filtered coffee however doesn’t harm us. So we should be first aware of the harmful effects of drinking unfiltered coffee and then only we can understand what would be the benefits of drinking a filtered coffee.

Actually coffee contains two chemicals, which are identified to be raising cholesterol levels. Those chemicals are Cafestol and Kahweol. These chemicals are a member of a chemical family called Diterpenes in coffee oils. The amount of Diterpenes depends upon the brewing method. Drip-brewed coffee, instant coffee and percolated coffee contain only minimal amount of Diterpenes. But boiled coffees such as Greek, Turkish, espresso and those made in French “press” coffeemaker have quite a greater amount of Diterpenes and contribute to increase in the cholesterol levels. So we must try and avoid drinking that.

So now we can understand how unfiltered coffee would harm us and would increase the level of cholesterol. But we can prevent it by drinking filtered coffee. Nowadays there are paper coffee filters, which trap the offending chemicals and keep them from entering the cup. Therefore paper filter coffee doesn’t increase cholesterol levels.

CONCLUSION

So now all the coffee lovers need not have to worry while drinking coffee next time. But it should be always kept in mind that drinking filtered coffee excessively would also not help us. So we can drink filtered coffee but in limited amounts and in control. Also we must try to avoid drinking unfiltered coffee and shall try to stop drinking it also. Because whatever it gives to us it takes much more than that and there is nothing more precious than health. So though we love drinking coffee we must take care of the fact that whether we are drinking a filtered or an unfiltered coffee. Then we can really enjoy our hot sip.
