Definition Of Strokel
A stroke is the sudden death of a portion of the brain cells due to a lack of oxygen. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is damaged resulting in abnormal function of brain. It may cause due to blockage of an artery to the brain.
It can be divided into 3 types.
Emboli (distant clot)
Thrombosis (local clot)
Cerebral hemorrhage
Emboli (distant clot): A clot is formed in the blood vessel which is previously narrowed due to atherosclerosis.
Thrombosis (local clot): When a blood clot or a piece of atherosclerotic plaque travels into an artery of the brain, it blocks the flow of the flow of oxygen-rich blood.
Cerebral hemorrhage: When a blood vessel in the brain bursts and bleeds into the SurDue to the lack of supply of oxygen, brain cells could not perform their normal works. The symptoms depend on which areas of brain are affected. They may be weakness of one side of the body, partial or complete loss of voluntary movement, Speech problems, Balance function, vision is affected, difficulty in breathing, become unconscious or die, lose the ability to think and work.
A heart attack and stroke might happen at the same time. Weakening of heart is followed by narrowing the brain artery and thus leading to stroke. Swallowing is also affected. Weakness affects the muscles of swallowing. If the loss of sensations is there because of stroke, then pneumonia may develop when food or saliva go into the wind pipe.
Some patients will return near to normal conditions but most patients will be left with permanent deficits such as weakness on one side of the body, or the inability to speak.
Treatment can save the lives of the patients but there are no perfect cures or medicines that could restore complete function to a stroke patient.
Normally use of anticoagulation, which minimizes blood clotting, is prescribed. Treatment for high/low blood pressure is recommended. In diabetic patients controlling the blood sugar level may minimize the size of a stroke. Blood clot dissolving drugs are used. Oxygen is administered when necessary. To increase the functional abilities of the patient’s rehabilitation process is started.
