The deficiency can occur due to a number of reasons as the malnutrition, or the problems with the absorption and use of the vitamin E by the body due to the genetic factors or unavailability of the substances that are useful for absorbing the vitamin E from the food.

The effects of the deficiency of the vitamin E

If the newborn baby is not able to absorb the vitamin E then he generally has a lower weight during the birth. The most important effect that this has on the patient is on his nerves. As the vitamin E is very important for the nervous system if the newborn baby faces the problems of the deficiency of the vitamin E then there will be problems with the development of the nervous system. In adults also in case of the deficiency of the vitamin E, there are problems with the maintenance of the nerves.

Moreover, this also affects the transfer of the nerve impulses.

Another problem with the nervous system is that the individuals have problems of balance and coordination. The medical term for this problem is ataxia.

During the birth or during the primary growth period then there is deformation of the retina. Therefore the baby is becomes blind.

One of the important features of the vitamin E is the neutralization of the free radicals in the body. In case of the deficiency, these free radicals will remain as it is and then encounter with the tissues of the body.

They will cause damage to these tissues. These free radicals are also responsible for the development of cancer in some cases.

The vitamin E also has role in protection from the cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, the deficiency also favors the problems, as myocardial infraction i.e. is heart attack. The vitamin E also aids in the prevention of cataracts. Therefore, in the absence of it, the protein from the eyes lens undergoes oxidation. It also is helpful to the immune system of the body. Therefore, there would a weakening of the immune system of the body in this case.
