The vitamin D contains a group of prohormones. These are fat-soluble vitamins. The types of the vitamins are D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5. The most important types are the vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). By vitamin D, generally people mean the metabolites or the analogues of them.

Deficiency symptoms

The deficiency of the vitamin can cause various problems, which are directly in relation to the vitamin D, or they may also be because of the inability of the body to make use of the other nutrients in the absence of the vitamin D. for example the inability of use calcium and phosphorus. This may arise when the person is not having enough exposure to the sunlight or is not consuming the adequate food items that contain the vitamin D.

The deficiency of the vitamin D results into several problems with the he bones and other parts of tee body.

The rickets is one such problem. This generally happens to children. This affects the growth of the body. However, this also affects the bones and therefore their bones of such children have some deformities. This specially occurs for the longer bones.

The second major one is the osteomalacia. This is a disease, which causes the thinning of the bones in the adults. In addition to this, the bones also become fragile. This also affects the muscles and weakens them.

The third major disease is the osteoporosis. In this, the density of the bones reduces. Therefore, the bones become thinner in thickness. This is because the ability of the bones to store the calcium reduces. This is one of the most common diseases in the adult or the older people. Moreover, this disease may also make their bones fragile. Therefore, if they put more strain on their bones as while jumping or running etc then there is danger that their bones may fracture.

In addition to these major diseases, this also causes the smaller problems as the problems with the texture of the skin or the adipose tissue in the body. This also reduces the immunity of the body against the external infections, etc. The deficiency of vitamin D also contributes to the development of the chronic disease as high blood pressure tuberculosis periodontal disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis schizophrenia, depression chronic pain, seasonal affective disorder, and many types of autoimmune diseases.
