Chronic Stress



Chronic stress. Well, the name says it all. Chronic stress. When a person feels that they are under pressure all the time. Chronic stress, by its very nature is constant and unrelenting. chronic stress can be quite devastating. Chronic stress can lead to clinical depression which can lead to a whole host of other maladies up to and including suicide. Chronic stress is debilitating and left untreated can have dire consequences. A person can withstand a fair among of stress. In fact some stress in a person's life is good for them. People need a little stress now and then to keep them healthy, but chronic stress is not a healthy thing. Chronic stress can lead to many other problems and disorders. So chronic stress should be dealt with and the person suffering from chronic stress caused disorders should seek professional help.

One of the many disorders that chronic stress leads to, is depression. When a person is suffering from chronic stress, he can begin to feel hopeless and if the cause of the chronic stress is not alleviated, then that chronic stress induced sense of hopelessness can grow into depression. Whatever the cause of the chronic stress is, it should be dealt with. Chronic stress is too much for a person to bear. Very often the person who feels to be suffering from chronic stress doesn't get any help until they have burned out and become clinically depressed and then everything falls apart. Very often chronic stress is a work related thing.

Some industries and jobs are just naturally more stressful that others and if a person is not taught survival skills of stress management, then they will eventually end up suffering the negative consequences of chronic stress.. People in high stress jobs need to be taught the most effective stress management skills possible. To avoid burnout from chronic stress, if the source of the chronic stress cannot be dealt with, the worker who is under chronic stress should be monitored closely for any signs of impending burnout and steps should be taken to help mitigate the effects of the chronic stress.

Other complications or consequences of chronic stress could be high blood pressure, a serious health threat, overeating which can result in obesity and related health risks and also the possible abuse of addictive substances to get some sense of relief from the causes of the chronic stress. It is important to find and reduce the causes of the chronic stress in order to remove the resulting consequences of living with chronic stress. In addition to these problems resulting from chronic stress, there are also theories that even cancer can be caused by chronic stress.

It is important to take the necessary steps to protect one's self from chronic stress. Some of the proactive steps that can be taken are maintaining a healthy diet, getting regular healthy exercise, taking time to remove one's self form stressful situations, whether they are at work or in one's personal life. Also, communing with nature and spending some time meditating have been shown to be effective approaches to reducing the ill effects of chronic stress.
