A family which consists of a father, mother and children is known as a nuclear family but these days it is quite common to see more single parent families. Single parents face the same problems that two parent families face but the problems will be more difficult to handle and bear in the case of a single parent. Mostly children feel hostile towards to their parents as they grow up and try to become more independent. This becomes all the more in the case where a single parent has to face the brunt of it all.

It is normal for the child to feel bitterness and hatred towards the absent parent. Loneliness, poverty, and insecurity about having to raise a child without support makes the single parent spoil them by overindulgence. These children do not get much exposure to be with other adults and children.

The child effects of single parenting are much more than in the case of a child with two parents. The continuing conflict and bitterness that the two parents carry towards each other will play a lot on the minds of the child and will affect the child mentally and emotionally.

Every child is happy and secure in the company of both his father and mother. This helps to nurture a well balanced and emotionally secure child.

Visitation rights awarded by the court and custody problems could also have a major impact on the child as the child will be torn between two parents from time to time instead of having to spend time with both parents all along. This way the child often less time with both the parents and is instead shuttling between two parents all the time and gets to spend time with only one parent at a time.

Disruptions of extended family relationships and problems caused when single parents begin to date and enter into new relations hips as these are all resented by children.

It is important that single parent arrange their priorities in life so that their child comes first as this will certainly go a long way when raising a child.

Children of single parents are always at a greater risk of poor psychological adjustments; behavioral and social problems have a low self esteem and perform badly in school. Allow the child to fully express himself and last but not least children need a loving, nurturing, stable and economically secure environment for best growth and full development..
