Stroke is death of brain cells due insufficient blood supply to brain. It causes because of blockage in brain artery due to clot or bleeding in brain artery. A person who suffers from the stroke is a stroke victim. The damage depends upon the severity of the stroke. Ischemic stroke victims are recovered fast while Hemorrhagic stroke victims may suffer a disability of some body parts. The treatment depends on the cause and extent of damage. Ischemic stroke victims are recovered by medication; While Hemorrhagic stroke victims may need surgery. Most of the time they need rehabilitation programs also.
Stroke
A stroke is a suspension of the blood supply to the different parts of the brain. A stroke is also called as a “brain attack” sometimes. The risk of the stroke increases by age. As the age advances, it is very risky to have strokes. There are some medicines available that decreases the clot formation and thus chances for the stroke. Woman who take birth control pills and are above the age of 35, in such woman the pills may cause blood clots.
Thrombotic strokes are the strokes that are generally caused by a thrombus or a blood clot. This thrombus or the blood clot develops in the arteries that supplies blood to the brain. A Thrombotic stroke is specifically seen in elderly persons, those having high levels of cholesterol and atherosclerosis.
Rehabilitation is the most important and critical part of recovery. The stroke can have the effect that you will have to change your way of living and redefine your own values and way of living. Effective stroke rehabilitation will help you to redefine your way of life and become independent again.
Effective rehabilitation cannot reverse the effect of stroke. The main and the most basic goal of rehabilitation is to make you confident again and make you regain your strengths and confidence back. This will help you to continue your daily life without any interruption and you can continue your activities even with the effects of stroke. Rehabilitation cannot work alone if you have the will to live and to become independent again then you will have to work alongside the rehabilitation program so that you will become independent quickly.
Stroke requires proper treatment and/or prevention whether before or after a stroke. The prevention or treatment can be of non-drug therapy or drug therapy. Non- drug therapy can be very useful for some individuals but it is very limited. Diet control may be very useful for people with high cholesterol or people developing atherosclerosis.
Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the important risk factors for stroke which is the leading cause of death in U.S. Hypertension is called as a silent killer because it is the prime cause not only for stroke but also for kidney diseases, coronary heart disease, blindness and heart failure.
A stroke is the sudden death of a portion of the brain cells due to a lack of oxygen. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is damaged resulting in abnormal function of brain. It is caused by blockage of artery to brain or bleeding in brain.
A stroke which is caused by blockage or artery by clot is called as Mini Stroke.
Embolic Stroke is generally caused due to an embolus. Embolus is a clot of blood that is formed in the body and then it travels to the brain by means of the different bloodstreams. Embolic strokes are frequently a result of the heart surgery, heart diseases, or people with atrial fibrillation- it is a condition in which the upper chambers of the heart fails to beat effectively. You will experience an embolic stroke very rapidly and that too without any warning symptoms.
What is Arteriography?
Arteriography is basically used for diagnosing a stroke. Generally called coronary angiography, the process of Arteriography includes the injection of a dye visible by X-ray into the blood flow of the patient. The dye is injected into the bloodstream of the patient and X-ray picture are taken and studied to figure out which arteries are damaged. These pictures are known as angiograms. Arteriography is used to help doctors evaluate the number and severity of the arteries block that supply blood to the heart.
It is said that prevention is always better than cure. It is very true in case of serious diseases like stroke. The stroke can result in permanent damage of brain cells and some disabilities. Once the disabilities are developed due to stroke, they are permanent and affect the lifestyle of the stroke victim. Hence, it is better to practice the preventive measures than to take the treatment when you suffer. Primary prevention of stroke involves the reduction of risk factors.
