Vaccination though painful is an essential measure in your child’s health. Before one or two centuries, child mortality was more in India. More killer diseases like small pox, measles were there which caused death or permanent disabilities in children. But thanks to vaccination, now our Country is safe from many diseases through vaccination to infants. Child mortality rate is considerably reduced. Polio, typhoid, hepatitis A and B are the most common diseases in children that will produce harmful effects.

Even though, vaccinations are there for many diseases, many children especially in rural areas do not receive the entire vaccination. Nowadays vaccines are safe and affordable. Another thing is the vaccine preventable diseases are dangerous and may cause permanent disabilities in children. You can not give treatment to such diseases. But you can prevent them. So vaccinate your child at correct time and preserve your child’s safety.

Most vaccines are compulsory today while some others are optional. Among the optional vaccines, hepatitis A and B are the essential vaccines. Hepatitis A protects your child from hepatitis virus that causes liver disorders. This type of virus spreads through unwashed hands. So this disease is common for children in day care centers and where children play together. It is advisable to put the vaccines in 12 -24 months of your baby.

Even though teenagers and adults are commonly infected by hepatitis B virus, it is recommended to vaccinate the babies in initial stage. Because if they get infected in early stage, it will result in prolonged lung disorder and sometimes lung cancer. Children who get early vaccination have shown greater immunity than children who are vaccinated after they are grown up.

MMR vaccine is compulsory and it protects the child from measles, mumps and rubella. It should be given twice to your child. Children may get fever or rash after they are vaccinated. This is not serious and is curable with normal medicines. MMR vaccine is prepared from eggs. So please do inform your Doctor before vaccinating your child.

DTP vaccines are given thrice to a child to protect Diphtheria, tetanus and Whooping cough. This vaccine is given in the early stage of the babies. It gives greater immunity. Hib vaccines are given nowadays along with DTP. Polio drops are given even before the child and the mother leave the hospital.
