Ayurveda has been a boon to the world from a very long time. It is a holistic system of medicine from India, which aims to provide guidance regarding food and lifestyle so that healthy people can stay healthy and people facing health challenges will be able to improve their health. Ayurveda has certain remedies for cholesterol problems also.

AYURVEDIC REMEDY

Ayurveda has proved to be one of the best remedies for cholesterol over times. It helps in lowering the cholesterol level to a greater extent. There is an Indian herb known as Guggul. The resin of Guggul is used for combating cholesterol. It is a standardized extract from the Mukul Myrrh tree, which is native to India. Researches have shown that by increasing the breakdown of LDL cholesterol in the liver one can combat cholesterol. Researches and studies have shown that it can lower LDL cholesterol levels by 25-35%. It can lower total cholesterol by 14-27%, triglycerides by 22-30% and also increase HDL cholesterol by approximately 20%. HDL cholesterols are those cholesterols that are good for the body and are also required by the body for certain functions of the body.

Also it is found that the steroid Guggulsterone, the active agent in the extract, blocks the activity of the Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) on cells. FXR actually helps in regulating the cholesterol by affecting the bile acids, which are produced and released by the liver. So as Guggulsterone blocks the activity of FXR it finally results in the lowering of cholesterol level in the body.

Some studies also say that steroid Guggulsterone increases the metabolism of the person and thus helps in reducing cholesterol levels.

But while taking this medicine one should again consult with his doctor. Certain researches and studies have shown that this drug should not be taken with Blood thinners without the consult of medical professionals.

CONCLUSION

As Ayurveda is very old and it has proved itself many times so it is one of the reliable treatment for reducing cholesterol levels. However consultation with medical professionals is very necessary.
