Anthrax Vaccinines

Anthrax is a disease caused by bacteria called Bacillus anthracis. These bacteria live in soil. It is common in animals like goat, sheep and cow. For human beings it spreads through three routes through skin infections, through ingestion and also through inhalation. But anthrax in human may not occur much often. But in United States the military believes it as a biological weapon that causes threats to humanity. These bacteria must be treated immediately because it spreads through air rapidly.

Human anthrax occur through cutaneous infection that is through skin infection is the most common type of anthrax. It may also occur through raw food and infected meat. It may also spread through air which is more dangerous. Anthrax vaccines can prevent the bacteria. It is recommended for people who have contact with animals and animal products that are infected. People engaged in this research work and veterinary doctors must use Anthrax vaccines. As the bacillus anthracis is a biological war threat, militants in US are supposed to use Anthrax vaccines for preventing the disease.

Anthrax may produce symptoms like flu. Inhalation Anthrax may occur like common cold and mild fever. Skin Anthrax occurs like an insect bite. Intestinal anthrax produces normal indigestion symptoms only. These normal symptoms can be associated with some other diseases. But after a weak, anthrax will cause severe breathing troubles or swelling or blood vomiting and severe diarrhea respectively. Treatment to anthrax is difficult and requires number of days in bed rest. So preventing them through vaccines is advisable.

There are 3 vaccines available for preventing anthrax at present. One is Russian, another is UK and the third one is US. All the three vaccines provide a protective coat against bacteria. But all may have severe side effects that raise number of issues all over the world. This vaccine requires 6 doses at 0, 2, 4,6,12 and 18 months respectively. This vaccine shows effectiveness in preventing skin anthrax only. For animals Anthrax vaccines are used in developed countries which show improved animal husbandry

The US military personnel refused to use anthrax vaccines due to its severe side effects. This is because anthrax vaccination is not a standard treatment. In fact anthrax is caused in human at very low percent only. So using of vaccines to prevent anthrax must be optional and must not be made compulsory.
