After Shock

When brain cells are damaged or dead because of lack of oxygen and nutrients, it is called stroke. Stroke can be of two types Ishchemic stroke and Hemorrhagic stroke.. There are two main causes of stroke. The stroke caused by a blockage from narrowing of the arteries or clot in the blood vessel supplying the brain, is called as Ischemic stroke.

Hemorrhagic stroke is due to bleeding into or around brain.

Treatment can save the lives of the patients but there are no perfect cures or medicines that could restore complete function to a stroke patient. People who survive a stroke may have temporary or permanent disabilities. They may have difficulties in controlling their emotions. More than 25% of people who recovered from their first stroke will have another within 5 years.

It is important to help these people to increase their functionality. For this rehabilitation program is undertaken. Rehabilitation is a important part of recovery for many stroke survivors. After the stroke patient's life needs to be redefined. Rehabilitation helps the patient to return independent living. Rehab centers are using innovative advanced theories and materials. These theories are supplementary to traditional therapy.

Though every stroke is individual, there are a number of common ways in which stroke can affect someone. National stroke association has built a national network to communicate the experiences of survivors. It publishes a news magazine every month. In these issues it gives experts advice about the daily living of stroke survivors. They may need advice about chopping veggies with one hand or driving a car or reducing stress.

Stroke can be isolating experience but the news magazine gives courage to the survivors and supports them in their lifelong recovery process. It gives them assurance that they are not alone. No one can better understand how the survivor is suffering, than another survivor: so reading the stories of survivors is beneficial. Stroke survivors are doing amazing things. They can share their personal insights and experiences through the news magazine issues of National Stroke Association. Survivors are also given chance to talk to people, with their own experiences many people can learn lessons and will be aware about the stroke.
