Adolescent Parenting
It is a well known fact that teen life is one of the most difficult times for a child while growing up. The child realizes that he or she is neither a child or a fully grown up man or woman. This is an intermediate stage in human life when he or she is most confused. But the next most important thing is that it is more difficult to parent a teenager than being one.
There are many things which play havoc in a teenager's life at this stage. They want independence, an identity of their own, hormone troubles, peer pressure etc. This really becomes challenging to parents as they are at their wit's end as to how much freedom they can give their child, what kind of discipline to impart, what issues to argue about, and how to talk with these youngsters with creativity, patience and courage.
Guiding a child from childhood to adulthood can be considered as a journey for any parent. It is important to ingrain good values and help the child to negotiate in social relationships.
Teach the adolescent to face challenges and help them to take failure as an experience in their lives and to learn from them and convert them into success and to also turn weaknesses to strengths. Teenagers are always known to make their own choices. But when these adolescents have a kind warm solid relationship with their parents then it will go a long way in helping these kids to avoid any pitfalls and even if they do to quickly recover from them.
Parents should take active interest in their children's activities and always keep a watchful eye to prevent them from becoming drug addicts or abuse alcohol or indulge in activities that could lead them into trouble. It is important that the adolescent feels emotionally secure in his or her home.
There should be a sense of connection between a teenager and his parents. He should be made to feel that he or she is wanted and loved and cared for by the parents. This will allow the teenager to have a healthy social approach to society. They will respond positively and responsibly to others. This will inculcate a sense of high esteem in the minds of the adolescents.
